Creating a Mindful Morning Routine
A mindful morning doesn’t need to be long or elaborate. A few intentional minutes can change how the rest of the day feels.
Begin before the screen
Many of us reach for our phones before we’ve fully woken up. Try giving yourself a few minutes first. Leave your phone in another room overnight, or simply decide to wait until after your first glass of water before checking messages.
Three slow breaths
Before getting out of bed, place a hand on your belly and take three slow, comfortable breaths. Notice the rise and fall beneath your hand. It takes less than a minute and can help you arrive in the day more gently.
Gentle movement
A few easy stretches can help you feel more awake. Try reaching your arms overhead, rolling your shoulders, or gently turning your head from side to side. Move slowly, breathe naturally, and stay within a comfortable range.
“The aim isn’t a perfect routine — it’s a kinder start.”
Savour one ordinary moment
Choose one everyday activity and give it your full attention: the warmth of your tea, the sound of the kettle, the feeling of water on your hands. This kind of informal mindfulness fits into any morning, however busy.
Set a simple intention
Before you start your day, ask yourself: “How would I like to feel today?” Perhaps patient, steady, or open. Let that word gently guide your choices, without pressure.
Keep it flexible
Some mornings will be rushed, and that’s fine. On busy days, choose just one element — three breaths, or one mindful sip of tea. Consistency grows from flexibility, not perfection.
